About NARCOOSSEE
This client was ready to take their formal living and dining room through a colorful new update. She expressed to us some of her key needs: plenty of seating for a large family, vintage pieces mixed in (see the funky console table and vintage prints), and fun lighting.
Full Service Interior Decorating
Narcoossee was a previously custom built home that our client was ready to make feel more like “her”. When she ended up moving, she was able to talk almost all of the existing pieces into her new home and re-use them. With a little help from Gail Barley Interiors, we filled in the blanks. Over 10 years later, it still looks fresh and vibrant. Gail Barley Interiors worked closely with this client to oversee all aspects of the decor.
SCOPE OF WORK
Gail Barley Interiors reworked the function of these two rooms without touching the blueprints. Our scope included:
Dining Room
Living Room
Kitchen Eat-In Area (not pictured)
Pre-Teen Bedroom (not pictured)
Interior Decorating Style
Our client was self described as liking, fun, color, and pattern play. She also expressed a strong desire for pieces that would stand the test of time. Her vibrant style reflects her and her family’s fun-loving personality.
Color palette
When our client said she wanted orange to be included, we were very excited. The client had previously added light blue throughout her home. We wanted to ensure we tied that in to keep the house feeling cohesive. By adding the accent wall in the dining area we not only made that space feel more special, but maintained a consistent palette with the rest of the house. The bright pops of orange in the benches, dining chairs, and accent pillows elevated the color scheme while the bold emerald made it all feel more “designer”.
Custom and Curated Features
The round dining table was custom designed for this client to hide a folding leaf within the table. No need to haul out a huge leaf from the garage or storage closet every time her family stopped by! The imported mirror and credenza came from a well-known local importer of vintage and interesting goods. The subtle colors and textures within the two pieces kept the space from feeling too stuffy or overly formal.
Unique challenges
The very high ceilings in this room needed to be addressed so that the furniture didn’t feel lost in the space. We did that with the large gallery wall of vintage prints, the extra tall mirror over the sideboard in the dining room, and custom draperies. Our goal was to draw the eye up to the ceiling, but without making the room feel lopsided. We think it feels perfectly balanced!
